چکیده

Abstract Wetland ecosystems play key roles in global biogeochemical cycling, but their spatial extent and connectivity is often not well known. Here, we detect the coverage type of wetlands at 10 m resolution across southern Nigeria (total area: 147,094 km 2 ), thought to be one most wetland-rich areas Africa. We use Sentinel-1 Sentinel-2 imagery supported by 1500 control points for algorithm training validation. estimate that swamps, marshes, mangroves, shallow water cover 29,924 with 2% uncertainty 460 . found larger mangrove smaller marsh than suggested earlier, coarser studies. Average continuous wetland patch were 120, 11, 55 13 mangrove, marsh, swamp, respectively. Our final map pixels captures small patches which may have been observed earlier mapping exercises, 20% being < 1 ; these clustered around urban centres, suggesting anthropogenic fragmentation. approach fills a knowledge gap between very local (< 400 ) studies reliant on field aerial photos, low (> 250 pixel dimensions) datasets provides data critical both improving land-surface climate models conservation.

Dispersal and Wetland Fragmentation

Wetlands provide habitat for a diverse array of aquatic and semiaquatic species, many of which provide direct economic and recreational value (Woodward and Wui 2001). Despite the provided by wetland fauna and flora, ecosystem services historical wetland loss has been dramatic. Wetland loss was >50% in the U.S. and 60-70% in Europe by the 1980s, with most losses resulting from agriculture and ur...

Super-resolution mapping of wetland inundation from remote sensing

Mapping the spatio-temporal characteristics of wetland 19 inundation has important significance to the study of wetland environment and 20 associated flora and fauna. High temporal remote sensing imagery is widely 21 used for this purpose with the limitations of relatively low spatial resolutions. In 22 this study, a novel method based on integration of back-propagation neural 23 network (BP) a...

Mapping of Urban Surface Water Bodies from Sentinel-2 MSI Imagery at 10 m Resolution via NDWI-Based Image Sharpening

This study conducts an exploratory evaluation of the performance of the newly available Sentinel-2A Multispectral Instrument (MSI) imagery for mapping water bodies using the image sharpening approach. Sentinel-2 MSI provides spectral bands with different resolutions, including RGB and Near-Infra-Red (NIR) bands in 10 m and Short-Wavelength InfraRed (SWIR) bands in 20 m, which are closely relate...

High resolution restriction mapping of YACs using chromosome fragmentation.

The large insert size of yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs; 1) has made them ideal for the analysis of complex genomes. YACs can be restriction mapped with rare cutting enzymes but this does not provide the resolution required to investigate gene structure (such as locating exons and introns). Detailed mapping normally requires sub-cloning into cosmid or phage vectors. Here we describe a metho...

High-Resolution Mutation Mapping Reveals Parallel Experimental Evolution in Yeast

Understanding the genetic basis of evolutionary adaptation is limited by our ability to efficiently identify the genomic locations of adaptive mutations. Here we describe a method that can quickly and precisely map the genetic basis of naturally and experimentally evolved complex traits using linkage analysis. A yeast strain that expresses the evolved trait is crossed to a distinct strain backg...
